Dear Parents and Guardians:

Does ADHD affect you and your child?  Hello, we are North Carolina A&T students here to inform parents about ADHD. As a part of a social activism project we want to educate parents on ADHD alternatives.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurobehavioral developmental disorder. It is one of the most common childhood disorders whose symptoms include difficulty staying focused and paying attention. Evidence shows that African American children have more severe cases of ADHD than other races and  are generally misdiagnosed.

The problem of ADHD can easily be solved with the correct guidance. Some children are diagnosed only because they are hyperactive. We would like to inform parents about nutritional diets and daily activities that help prevent or slow down ADHD behaviors. Some children are prescribed medicines such as Ritalin and Adderall to control their ADHD. Many children do not meet the criteria set out for people who should be taking these drugs.

In conclusion, we recommend parents to educate themselves on ADHD before acting so quickly. We encourage the channeling of energy into productive activities and nutritional dieting.

Sincerely,

Shira Benson
