FACTS *The moderate count says 5-9% of children suffer from ADHD. *Boys are 10x more likely than girls to have ADHD. *Ritalin is the most common ADHD treatment medication. (more than 2 million perscriptions) *ADHD can affect a child's ability to learn, behave, and/or pay attention. *Many African American children are never diagnosed with having ADHD even though they do. *Cultural issues are usually to blame for the lack of diagnosis. *Many children are unncessarly give medication for ADHD. * African American children are more likely to be perscribed ADHD medicantion such as Ritalin than Caucassian children. *Medications can cause Jitteriness, Depression, Hedaches, and Weight loss. *Serious side affects include stuttering, high blood pressure, stroke, and even death. |
SYMPTOMS *Are in constant motion. *Squirm and fidget. *Do not seem to listen. *Have difficulty playing quietly. *Often talk excessively. *Interrupt or intrude on others. *Are easily distracted. *Do not finish tasks.
