We are a group of four North Carolina A&T State University freshman who looked to tackle a health related problem effecting the African American community. Our group had one mission, and that was to inform the Guiford County citizens about Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and its affect on African American children. Many children in our community are not diagnosed or wrongfully diagnosed with ADHD. The problem is that African American are unknowingly ignorant to what ADHD is and do not really concern themselves with learning while their child may have a little too much energy or be a little bad. We decied that we first needed to educate the community about ADHD and how it involves African American Children, then to go into the community and work with children to help them channel and focus their energies into positive activities. We feel that by providing children with positive guidance and parents with knowledge on ADHD we can make a diffence in the behavior and futures of the children in the African American community.
